Turmeric

Several mechanisms by which turmeric may alleviate anosmia or ageusia induced by COVID-19 are plausible. Curcumin has been shown to bind and block the active site of Mpro, the main protease utilized by COVID-19 to produce proteins required for viral replication from viral genomic RNA [10] – [Ref. https://www.cureus.com/articles/68407-turmeric-as-a-possible-treatment-for-covid-19-induced-anosmia-and-ageusia.] Turmeric can be grown in diverse tropical conditions from sea level to 1500 m above sea level, at a temperature range of 20-35oC with an annual rainfall of 1500 mm or more, under rainfed or irrigated conditions. A number of cultivars are available in the country and are known mostly by the name of locality where they are cultivated. Some of the popular cultivars are Duggirala, Tekurpeta, Sugandham, Amalapuram, Erode local, Alleppey, Moovattupuzha, and Lakadong.
